Usage Information

Take this drug by mouth, with or without food. In order to get the most benefit from this medication, use it regularly and at the same time each day. It may take up to 2 to 3 months before the full benefit of this medication takes effect.

Dosage

The doses of this medicine may differ for different patients. Actual dose depends on your medical condition and response to therapy. Usually, rosiglitazone is taken once or twice daily, with or without meals. Daily doses range from 4 to 8 mg either with or without other antidiabetic medications.

Interactions

Rifampin decreases the concentration of rosiglitazone in the blood by increasing its breakdown in the liver. Therefore, use of rifampin may decrease the effect of rosiglitazone. At the same time, gemfibrozil increases the concentration of rosiglitazone in the blood by reducing its breakdown. Therefore, gemfibrozil may increase the side effects of rosiglitazone.

Side Effects

Swelling, unexplained rapid weight gain, trouble breathing, unusual fatigue, fast or pounding heartbeat, changes in menstrual cycles. If the above side effects occur, consult your doctor immediately. Headache or cough may also occur.
